Ephesians 2:10

The Master’s Workmanship

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. — Ephesians 2:10

Ephesians 2:10

Observation

What if your purpose was planned before you were born? Paul says we are God's own workmanship. This is not a repair job; it is a brand new creation in Christ Jesus. The purpose of this creation is specific: for good works. These are not tasks we invent to earn God's favor. They are works He prepared in advance. He designed the path and then designed us for that path. Our part is simply to “walk in them,” stepping into the purpose He has already established for us. This is about participation, not self-generated performance.

Reflection

You are not an accident. God, the Master Craftsman, made you with loving intention. He did not just save you from something; He saved you for something. These good works are not a heavy burden you carry to prove your worth. They are a gift, a pre-arranged path where you get to express His character. Ambrose of Milan saw it this way: our good actions are like fruit on a tree God planted. The tree does not strive; it simply abides. You can rest today, knowing your purpose is not something you must create. It is something you discover as you walk with Him. What has He prepared for you today?

Sit With This

Today, walk in the quiet confidence that you are God's workmanship, designed for a purpose He has already prepared.

Prayer

Father, thank you for making me your masterpiece and preparing a purpose just for me. Help me to stop striving in my own strength and simply walk in the good works you have laid out. Let my life bring you glory. Amen.

Did You Know?

The concept of “walking” in a certain way was a common Jewish metaphor for one's entire lifestyle or conduct, rooted in the Hebrew term for law and tradition, *halakhah*.
