For we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard. — Acts 4:20
Acts 4:20
Observation
What do you do when your deepest conviction is declared illegal? Peter and John stood before the powerful Sanhedrin. These men commanded the apostles to stop speaking about Jesus. Peter’s response was not one of defiance but of declaration. He stated a simple, unchangeable fact. They had seen the resurrected Christ. They had heard His words. For them, silence was not an option. It was an impossibility. Their testimony was not a choice; it was an overflow of a transformed reality.
Reflection
You may feel pressure to stay quiet about your faith. The world gives you a thousand reasons to keep Jesus to yourself. But what you have seen and heard in Christ is too real to hide. John Chrysostom saw the apostles’ words not as mere bravery, but as a fire inside that could not be contained. This is the Spirit’s work in you. It is not about mustering up courage. It is about being so full of the reality of Jesus that He naturally spills out. What has God shown you that you simply cannot keep inside today?
Sit With This
Ask yourself: Is my knowledge of Jesus a fact I hold, or a reality that holds me?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, fill me so completely with the truth of who You are. Let my words be a natural overflow of my love for You, not a fearful duty. Give me a holy compulsion to speak. Amen.
Did You Know?
The Sanhedrin, the court that threatened the apostles, was largely controlled by the Sadducees. This sect denied the resurrection, making Peter's testimony about a risen Jesus particularly offensive to them.
