Matthew 25:21

The Joy of His Approval

His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ — Matthew 25:21

Matthew 25:21

Observation

What if the smallest things you do today matter most for eternity? The master in this story returns and evaluates his servant. The praise is specific: 'good and faithful'. The reason is clear: faithfulness 'over a few things'. The reward is not just more responsibility, but something far greater: an invitation to enter the master’s own joy. This verdict is not based on the size of the task or public recognition. It is a direct commendation from the highest authority, a verdict on the servant's entire way of being.

Reflection

Do you ever feel like your life is a collection of small, unseen tasks? God sees them all. He is not looking for grand gestures that the world can applaud. He is looking at your heart. He is looking for a steady, quiet faithfulness. Augustine of Hippo once noted that God delights not in the size of the gift but in the love with which it is given. Your integrity in the mundane is your worship. You can trust that the God who sees your quiet obedience today is the One who will welcome you into His joy tomorrow. What small thing can you entrust to Him right now?

Sit With This

Today, choose to do one small, unseen task with great faithfulness, knowing it is seen and valued by your Lord.

Prayer

Father, help me stop striving for the world's notice and instead find my worth in Your approval alone. Make my heart faithful in the small things, trusting that You see me. Let my greatest desire be to enter into Your joy. Amen.

Did You Know?

In the Roman world, a servant entrusted with his master’s property held a position of significant trust. To be called 'faithful' was the highest possible praise for their character and reliability.
