Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. — 2 Corinthians 5:20
2 Corinthians 5:20
Observation
Do you realize God has given you a formal title and a job description? Paul is clear that this new reality is entirely “from God” (v. 18). He is the one who initiated peace. God was in Christ, personally absorbing the hostility between Himself and the world. He chose not to count our sins against us (v. 19). Because of this great act, He has now entrusted us with a specific task. He has committed to us the very “message of reconciliation” and commissioned us to carry it for Him.
Reflection
Friend, God did not reconcile you to Himself just for your own benefit. He immediately gave you a new identity and purpose. You are His ambassador. Think about that. John Chrysostom marveled at the dignity God gives us, that He would make His appeal to the world through our lives. This isn't about being perfect or having all the right answers. It is about your availability. God is not asking you to create a message of peace, but simply to deliver the one He has already accomplished in Christ. Where will you let God make His appeal through you today?
Sit With This
You are not just a follower of Christ; you are His official representative, carrying His personal appeal for peace to the world.
Prayer
Father, thank you for not counting my sins against me but instead giving me a new purpose. Help me to be a faithful ambassador for you, carrying your message of peace with courage and love. Amen.
Did You Know?
In the Roman world, an ambassador carried the full authority and honor of the emperor. To welcome or reject the ambassador was to welcome or reject the emperor himself.
