Colossians 3:3

Your Life Is Hidden

For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. — Colossians 3:3

Colossians 3:3

Observation

Have you ever felt completely exposed and vulnerable? Paul tells the Colossian believers something startling to counter that feeling. He declares that their old life, the one driven by sin and worldly approval, has died. It is over. In its place is a new life, but this new life is not visible to everyone. It is not something they must strive to display or prove to others. Instead, Paul gives them this incredible picture of security. He says their real life, their true identity, is now located in the safest place in the universe. It is hidden with Christ. And where is Christ? He is with God. This is not a call to withdraw from the world, but a statement of spiritual reality. For the original audience, living under Roman rule and facing various pressures, this was an anchor. Their value, their future, and their very being were not subject to the whims of an emperor or the judgment of their neighbors. Their life was secured in God Himself.

Reflection

Friend, the world is constantly demanding that you prove your worth. It tells you to be seen, to be successful, to make a name for yourself. It can leave you feeling exhausted and insecure, as if you are always one misstep away from failure. But God’s word speaks a different reality over you today. He says your true life is not available for the world’s evaluation. It is hidden. Think about the peace in that one word. Your life is tucked away safely with Jesus Christ. No accusation from the enemy can reach it there. No failure can tarnish it. No fear can threaten it. Because your life is with Christ, you belong completely to God. Your identity is not based on what you accomplish today, but on your unshakeable position as His beloved child. He holds you securely. When you feel unseen, misunderstood, or anxious about what people think, remember where your true self resides. It is with the One who sees you perfectly, knows you completely, and holds you eternally. You do not have to perform for His affection or strive for His approval. You already have it all in Jesus. Can you rest in that unseen security today?

Sit With This

Where is my true life located today: in my performance for the world, or in my position with Christ?

Prayer

Father, thank you that my real life is not defined by this world but is safe with Christ. Help me live from this place of security and belonging, trusting that I am completely and forever Yours. Amen.
