A Weight of Glory

Does your trouble feel anything but light? The apostle Paul, who suffered immensely, calls his affliction 'light' and 'for a moment'. He is not denying the pain. He is using a divine scale to measure it. He sees that the present suffering, when placed on the scales opposite eternity, is small. More than that, this temporary affliction is actively producing something. It is working for us a glory that is eternal and has immense substance and value. The contrast is the entire point. A momentary cause produces an eternal effect.

Friend, God is not telling you that your pain is insignificant. He is showing you the scale on which He weighs things. Your current hardship feels heavy because it is all you can feel right now. But God sees its true weight in light of eternity. He promises that this very affliction is accomplishing something for you. It is preparing a glory that is so real and substantial it is called a 'weight'. You can trust Him that this pain is not pointless. Will you let Him hold the scales for you today?

Imagine placing your heaviest burden on a scale opposite the glory of Christ. Ask Him to help you feel the balance tip.

Father, my affliction feels so heavy, not light at all. Help me see from Your eternal perspective and trust the weight of glory You are working in me. Thank you that this present pain is not the final word. Amen.

In the ancient world, a person's 'glory' (Hebrew: kabod) was often linked to their 'weight' or substance, signifying their importance and wealth. Paul is tapping into this powerful idea.
