A God Who Delights in Mercy

Have you ever wondered what truly brings God joy? The prophet Micah ends his message not with a final warning, but with a song of worship. After detailing Israel’s sin and the coming judgment, he asks a question that hangs in the air: Who is a God like you? The surrounding nations worshiped gods who were angry and had to be appeased. But Israel’s God is unique. He is a God who “pardons sin.” This is not a passive overlooking. The thing that brings God pleasure is showing you kindness. This is not just a nice thought. It is the engine of the gospel. God’s delight in mercy found its ultimate expression at the cross. God so delighted in forgiving you that He sent His Son, Jesus, to absorb the full penalty for your sin. He satisfied His own justice so He could freely offer you His mercy (Romans 3:25-26). Because of Christ, God is not holding your sin against you. He does not just tolerate you. He delights in you and loves to pour out His grace upon you. Today you may feel the weight of a past mistake. You may feel disqualified or far from God. Hear this promise directly from His word: He does not stay angry forever. He delights to show you mercy. You can trust Him with your failure. His arms are not crossed in judgment; they are open in welcome. Will you believe today that God’s greatest joy is to forgive you?
