He commands us to have an infant's desperate instinct for nourishment. The 'pure spiritual milk' is the unadulterated Word of God. The purpose is not merely knowledge but survival and growth. Peter directly links this daily intake to our spiritual development. Growth is not automatic; it is the result of being fed. We are to grow into the fullness of the salvation we have already received.
Reflection
A healthy appetite is a sign of life. In the same way, a hunger for God's Word is a sign of a healthy soul. This milk is the simple, life-giving truth of the gospel. Early believers like Augustine saw it as the essential foundation of faith. You can trust that God has provided exactly what you need to grow. He is not asking you to be a great scholar. He is inviting you to come as a dependent child, ready to be fed by your Father. What keeps you from coming to His Word with that simple, dependent hunger today?

Father, forgive me for the times I have neglected Your Word. Create in me a clean heart and a desperate hunger for the pure milk of Your truth. Help me grow up into the salvation You have so freely given me. Amen.
