Where Is Your Sting

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. — 1 Corinthians 15:57

1 Corinthians 15:57

Observation

Have you ever felt the cold shadow of the 'last enemy'? Paul concludes his great teaching on the resurrection with a triumphant shout. He quotes ancient prophecies, turning them into a taunt against death itself (v. 55). When our perishable bodies are finally clothed with the imperishable, the promise is fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory” (v. 54). Paul is clear about the source of death’s power. Its painful sting is sin, and the strength of sin is the law (v. 56). This connection sets the stage for God's incredible solution to our deepest problem.

Reflection

Friend, that victory Paul shouts about is not something you have to earn. It is a gift. Notice he says God gives us the victory (v. 57). It was won completely by Jesus Christ at the cross and in His resurrection. Christ turned the sting of sin into the sweetness of eternal life. Your past sins, your present struggles, your future fears; they have no ultimate power over you. The final verdict has already been declared in your favor because of Jesus. Can you rest today in the victory that is already yours?

Sit With This

Today, when fear or failure whispers to you, answer it with this truth: the battle is over, and the victory is already yours in Christ.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for defeating my greatest enemies, sin and death. Help me to live today not in fear of the sting, but in the freedom of Your complete victory. I place my trust and my future entirely in You. Amen.

Did You Know?

Paul’s taunt, “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” is a creative blend of two Old Testament prophecies: Isaiah 25:8 and Hosea 13:14.
