Observation
Facing a massive, hungry crowd, Jesus poses a logistical problem to Philip about where to buy bread. The question is not for information but for examination, as Jesus already knows the miracle He will perform (John 6:6). Philip’s response is immediate and practical; he calculates the cost in denarii and concludes that it is utterly impossible to feed so many people (John 6:7). His answer reveals a mindset fixed on earthly resources and financial limitations, not on the divine power standing right next to him.
Reflection
How often do you respond like Philip, immediately calculating the cost and seeing only the impossibility of your situation? How Philip saw the problem of the hungry crowd but failed to see the solution, the Bread of Life, standing beside him. God often allows you to face impossible circumstances not to crush you, but to invite you to look beyond your own limited resources and see His infinite supply. In which area of your life are you focused more on the math of the problem than on the presence of the Provider?

Prayer
Lord Jesus, forgive me for so often looking at my problems through Philip’s eyes, calculating the cost and forgetting Your power. Help me to turn from my anxious accounting and see You, the all-sufficient answer to every need I have. Amen.
