Wait For The Man To Act

Naomi sends Ruth to Boaz with a risky, unconventional proposal on the threshing floor (Ruth 3:1-4). Ruth obeys, and Boaz, a man of character, responds not with exploitation but with honor. He recognizes her claim, blesses her for her loyalty, and promises to act as her kinsman-redeemer if the nearer relative will not (Ruth 3:12-13). He sends her away with a gift, a pledge of his intent, and Naomi instructs her to simply wait for the outcome.

Notice Naomi's counsel: “Wait… for the man will not rest.” Why not announce the plan to the whole town? Because their part—the bold step of faith—was done. Now, they had to trust Boaz's character and his process. Boaz, working to redeem Ruth, prefigures Christ, who works unseen to secure our redemption. You too have a Redeemer who will not rest until His promises to you are fulfilled; your part is to trust His timing when you are called to be still. Where are you trying to force a resolution when God is asking you to simply wait on Him?

When your part is done, true faith is shown not in striving, but in the quiet confidence that your Redeemer is at work.

Lord Jesus, my Redeemer, thank you that you are never idle but are always working for my good. Help me to trust your character and your timing when all I can do is wait. Still my anxious heart with the knowledge that you will settle the matter. Amen.
