Together Forever with the Lord

What happens in the moment after our final breath? The believers in Thessalonica were deeply worried about this question. They feared that friends and family who had died would miss out on the Lord's return. Paul writes to calm their fears. He gives them a picture of a great reunion. The dead in Christ and the living believers will be gathered together to meet Jesus (1 Thess 4:17). This meeting is not a temporary visit. It is the beginning of an unending existence with Him. This truth was given to be their anchor.

This promise of being with the Lord is not based on your performance. It is secured by His resurrection. He went to the cross to make this reunion possible. One day, you will be with Him. This is not wishful thinking; it is your inheritance. The great preacher John Chrysostom taught that this one promise outweighs every possible earthly sorrow. God has a future for you that is greater than your past and more real than your present troubles. He is faithful to finish what He started in you. What grief are you carrying that feels final today?
