The Work of Building Others

Your words have weight. They can build or they can break. Paul is writing to a church that is already doing well. He affirms them, saying “just as you are doing.” Yet he still gives the command. This is not a suggestion for mature believers. It is a core function of life in Christ. Encouragement is not accidental. It is the intentional work of strengthening the faith of those around you. Paul sees the church as a construction site where every believer has a job to do. Your assignment is to build.

God is the Master Builder. He is the one who laid the foundation, Jesus Christ, and He is the one who builds you up in faith. But He invites you to join His work. He gives you the privilege of being His instrument to strengthen another person. A wise pastor named John Chrysostom once said that this work protects a brother from the devil’s attacks. Your simple words of life can become a fortress for someone’s soul. You can trust that when God calls you to build, He provides the tools. How will you let Him use you today?

Father, make my words a source of strength for others today. Help me see who needs building up and give me the grace to speak life into their soul. Let my presence reflect Your steadfast love. Amen.
