The True Mark of Sonship

Who is really in control of your life? Paul gives a clear and simple test. The evidence of being a child of God is being led by His Spirit. This is not about mystical feelings but about direction. In Roman culture, a son followed his father’s business and learned his ways. Paul applies this to our spiritual lives. Our sonship is proven by our responsiveness to the Spirit's guidance. It is the sign of our new family identity in Christ, given to us by grace.

Friend, this verse is a great comfort. It tells you that if you belong to God, His Spirit is personally guiding you. You may not always feel it. You may stumble. But God's Spirit is faithful to lead His children. The question is not whether He is leading, but whether you are following. He guides you away from sin and toward righteousness. He shapes your desires to look more like His. You can trust His quiet, steady hand on your life today. Where is He asking you to follow Him right now?

In one specific decision today, consciously ask the Holy Spirit for direction and then wait for His peace before you act.

Father, thank you for adopting me as your child through Jesus. Help me to listen for the voice of your Spirit above all others. Lead me today in your paths for your name’s sake. Amen.
