Observation
The most exhausting work is trying to earn what is already free. The writer of Hebrews makes a stunning promise: a special Sabbath rest remains for God’s people. This is not about a day of the week. It is about a state of being. To enter this rest is to stop your own works, your own striving for righteousness. This is patterned on God Himself, who rested after His work of creation was complete (Gen 2:2). For the original readers, this was a radical shift from a works-based system to a faith-based rest.
Reflection
Friend, God is not asking you to work harder for His approval. He is inviting you to stop. This rest is a place you enter by simple faith in what Christ has already done. Your striving adds nothing to His perfect, finished work on the cross. You can lay down the heavy burden of performance, of trying to be good enough. His grace is sufficient. His work is complete. You are invited to simply cease your efforts and receive the peace He purchased for you. What work are you still trying to do that Jesus has already finished?

What one burden of performance can you lay down today and trust entirely to Christ's finished work?
Prayer
Father, I confess that I try to earn your love through my own efforts. Help me to cease from my own works and trust completely in the finished work of Jesus. Let me enter and live in Your perfect rest today. Amen.
