The Quiet Work of Redemption

After Ruth's vulnerable act of faith at the threshing floor, Boaz responds with honor and a promise. He instructs her to leave before being recognized, not out of shame, but to protect her reputation and to handle the legal matter with integrity (Ruth 3:14). Naomi, upon hearing the news, counsels not more action but patient waiting. Her confidence is not in the plan itself, but in the character of Boaz, who she knows “will not rest but will settle the matter today” (Ruth 3:18). The crucial moment of faith is followed by a necessary season of waiting.

How often do you take a step of faith and then grow anxious for an immediate result? Naomi’s counsel to 'wait' is a gentle call to trust the character of our Redeemer, even in the quiet moments after our obedience. Ruth, a Gentile, found rest under the wings of a Hebrew, just as we find our rest under the wings of Christ. After you have brought your need to His feet, your part is to trust His perfect timing and sovereign work. Can you rest in His character while He settles the matter?

After you have acted in faith, learn to rest in the character of your Redeemer.

Lord Jesus, my Redeemer, thank you for your faithful character. Forgive me for my impatience when I don't see immediate answers, and help me to rest in your good and perfect timing. I trust you to settle the matter. Amen.
