The Blessing Reserved for You

Is your faith less valuable because you were not there? Jesus answers this question directly. He looks at Thomas and makes a simple statement of fact: seeing led to believing. Thomas needed physical proof, and Jesus graciously provided it. But then, in the same breath, Jesus looks past Thomas and past that room. He looks through time directly to you and me. He pronounces a specific blessing, a divine favor, on a different kind of faith. This is the faith of all who would come after. It is the faith that rests not on sight, but on testimony. The first hearers of John’s Gospel would have been greatly encouraged by this. They lived in a world hostile to their beliefs, without the privilege of having walked with Jesus. Yet here, Jesus calls their faith blessed. He elevates it. He makes it clear that belief based on the trustworthy witness of His Word is not a lesser faith. It is a powerful and honored faith.

It is easy to think that if you could just see a sign, your faith would be stronger. You may have prayed, 'Lord, just show me, and I will believe.' But Jesus turns that desire on its head. He says there is a special blessing reserved just for you, for the one who believes without ever having seen. Your faith is not a second class faith. It is the very kind Jesus honors. This is about trusting His character, His truthfulness. When you read His Word, you are not just reading a history book. You are hearing the testimony of the One who is Truth Himself. God is not asking you to believe blindly into the dark. He is asking you to believe Him. He asks you to trust His testimony about His Son more than you trust your own need for physical proof. Today, when doubts arise, you have a choice. You can demand a sign, remaining where Thomas was before he believed. Or you can choose to stand in the blessing Jesus promised, resting in the character of the One who spoke this over you. Where are you waiting for sight before you are willing to exercise faith in God's truthfulness?

Lord Jesus, forgive me for demanding proof when you have already given me your Word. Help my unbelief, and grant me the grace to trust what I cannot see. Let me live today in the blessing you promised for me. Amen.
