They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. — Lamentations 3:23
Lamentations 3:23
Observation
Have you ever felt that your hope has been completely consumed? The prophet writes these words from the heart of a national catastrophe. His city, Jerusalem, is a smoking ruin. The promises of God seem to have failed, and the people are in exile. Everything they trusted in has been destroyed. From this place of absolute devastation, the prophet makes a stunning declaration. He says we are not utterly consumed because of God's mercies. This is not wishful thinking. It is a defiant statement of faith made in the dark. For the original audience, hearing this would be a shock. The evidence around them screamed of God's absence. Yet the prophet insists that God's compassions have not failed. He claims they are renewed every single morning. Each sunrise is not just the start of another day of suffering, but a fresh delivery of God's loyal love and faithfulness, sufficient for that day's pain.
Reflection
Your world may feel like it is in ruins today. A relationship, a career, your health, or your hope may feel like rubble at your feet. It is in these moments that God’s faithfulness becomes more than a concept; it becomes your lifeline. Notice the promise is not that your circumstances will be new every morning, but that His mercies will be. God does not promise to remove the rubble immediately. He promises to meet you in it with fresh strength, fresh grace, and a love that has not and will not run out. His faithfulness is not a feeling you must generate. It is a fact you can stand on. He was faithful yesterday. He is faithful in this moment. He will be faithful tomorrow. You can trust Him. You do not need mercy for next week; you need it for right now. And right now, it is available to you, fresh and full. What specific burden feels too heavy for you to carry into this day? You can entrust it to His great faithfulness, knowing His compassion for you has not failed.
Sit With This
His mercies are not a past memory or a future hope; they are a present reality for you this morning.
Prayer
Faithful Father, thank you that your mercy does not depend on my feelings but on your unchanging character. Help me to see and receive your fresh compassion for me this morning, especially in the areas that feel broken. Lord, I trust you. Amen.
Did You Know?
