Buy Back The Time

Do you ever feel like your days just disappear? Paul tells the Ephesian believers to look carefully how they walk (Eph 5:15). This was not a suggestion; it was a command for spiritual survival. In a city like Ephesus, filled with idol worship and immorality, careless living was dangerous. A distracted Christian was a vulnerable Christian. So Paul gives three clear instructions. First, live wisely, not foolishly. This means living with skill and purpose, guided by God's truth. Second, redeem the time (Eph 5:16). He says the days are evil, meaning they are filled with influences that pull us away from God. Every moment is precious and must be intentionally used for good. Finally, he commands them to understand the Lord’s will (Eph 5:17). Foolishness is living without direction, tossed about by feelings or circumstances. Wisdom is knowing what God wants and doing it. These are not principles for self-improvement. They are commands for staying faithful in a hostile world.

It is so easy to let a day slip through your fingers. You wake up with good intentions, but then distractions come. The phone buzzes. The to-do list grows. Before you know it, the day is gone, and you wonder what you accomplished for eternity. God knows this struggle. That is why He tells you, through Paul, to be intentional. He is not asking you to fill every second with frantic activity. He is inviting you to see your time as a gift from Him. A wise person does not just let life happen to them; they prayerfully decide how to live it. God has given you His Word and His Holy Spirit to guide you. He will show you His will. You can trust Him to give you the wisdom you need for the decisions you face today, big and small. Your life is not an accident. God has a purpose for every moment He gives you. Will you ask Him how to invest this one day He has placed in your hands?

Father, forgive me for the time I waste on things that do not last. Grant me the wisdom to see each moment as an opportunity from You and the courage to live for Your will alone. Amen.
