Accepted in the Beloved

Do you ever feel like you are trying to earn God’s approval? Paul opens his letter by listing the spiritual blessings God has already given to believers. This verse is a high point in that list. He is not giving commands to follow, but truths to believe. He declares that God has already acted on our behalf. He has made us accepted. Notice where this acceptance is found: “in the beloved.” This is a title for Jesus Christ, the Son whom the Father loves completely (Matthew 3:17). This means your acceptance is not based on you at all. It is based entirely on your connection to Jesus. For the original audience in Ephesus, who were surrounded by temples to gods that needed constant appeasement, this was a radical truth. Their old religions were built on performance and sacrifice to gain favor. Paul announces that in Christ, favor is a free gift. This is a statement of fact, a declaration of your new identity. It is not a goal to achieve or a status to maintain. It is a finished work accomplished by God through His grace. Your standing before God is as secure as Christ’s standing before God, because you are in Him.

Friend, I want you to let this truth settle deep in your spirit today. God does not just tolerate you. He does not simply put up with you. The Bible says He has *made* you accepted. It is a finished work. The Father looks at you and sees you through the perfect righteousness of His Son, the Beloved. He delights in you because you are in the One He delights in. All your striving, your attempts to be good enough, and your fears of falling short can cease right now. Your acceptance is not based on your performance today or your failures yesterday. It is based on Christ's perfect performance on your behalf, which never changes. Because you are “in the beloved,” you are beloved. His affection for you is secure, steady, and eternal. You can rest in that. This truth sets you free. It frees you from the exhausting work of trying to earn what has already been given. It frees you to obey God not out of fear of rejection, but out of a heart overflowing with love and gratitude for His incredible grace. How would your day change if you truly lived as someone who is already and completely accepted by God?

Today, when you feel the need to perform for approval, remind yourself: 'I am already accepted in the Beloved.'

Father, thank You for making me accepted in Jesus, Your beloved Son. Help me to stop striving and to rest in the finished work of the cross. Let this truth anchor my heart in Your unfailing love today. Amen.
