A Voice You Can Trust

Whose voice are you tuned into today? Jesus states a clear, three-part reality for those who belong to Him. First, His sheep hear His voice. It is a defining characteristic. Second, He knows them intimately, not as a group but as individuals. This knowing is the foundation of the relationship. Third, they follow Him. Following is the natural, logical response to hearing the voice of the one who knows you completely. It is a sequence of recognition, relationship, and response that proves ownership.

Friend, in a world full of competing voices, Jesus offers you a clear one. He is not shouting over the chaos. He speaks directly to your heart. Notice the beautiful order here: you hear Him because He first knows you. Your following does not earn His attention; it is the result of it. You can trust His voice because it belongs to the Shepherd who laid down His life for you. He will not lead you astray. Your part is simply to listen for that familiar voice and take the next step. What is He asking you to trust Him with today?

Instead of asking God 'What should I do?', try asking 'Shepherd, what are you saying?' and simply listen for His voice.

Good Shepherd, quiet my heart so I can distinguish your voice from all the others. Thank you for knowing me completely and still calling me your own. Give me the courage to follow wherever you lead me today. Amen.
